Cut hair from the nape of the neck
Cut the hair as close to the scalp as possible.
Measure the hair sample
Cut 2.5cm to 4cm (1" – 1 ½") from the root end of the hair (closest to the
scalp). Discard the rest of the hair. It is always recommended to provide
more hair than less as this will avoid any rejections due to insufficient sample amount
Prepare the cardboard scales
Using the cardboard 'scales' enclosed in kit, place pencil or pen on a
table underneath the card where indicated
Place hair on the A side
Place cut hair on the 'A' half of the cardboard scales. Ensure enough hair has been placed at 'A' so scale is tipped (as shown on card) to the table top. Approximately 0.5g is needed. A visual indicator would be a heaped tablespoon.
Fill in details and place in the specimen transport bag
Fill out name, date of birth and gender on reverse of cardboard scales
and place with hair into Specimen transport bag.
Step 7
Place the specimen transport bag with your hair sample into the Reply
Paid Post Padded Envelope and return to GetTested via your nearest
Australia Post outlet or yellow express post bin on that same day.
