Read before taking the test

Test-ID must be registered before it’s sent;
Send on a Monday or Tuesday;
The test should be carried out in the morning, 1-2 hours after getting up.

4 weeks before: No antibiotics or colonoscopy.
2 weeks before: No severe diarrhea or enemas. Avoid proton pump inhibitors and oral X-ray contrast.
1 week before (if possible, otherwise at least 3 days before):
Avoid probiotics and/or laxatives (including prokinetics and high-dose magnesium/vitamin C).
Avoid medications or supplements with sugars or fibres that feed gut bacteria (e.g. prebiotics such as inulin, various oligosaccharides, 2-fucosyllactose or supplements that contain fructose, sorbitol, xylitol, honey, or large amounts of lactose.)
3 days before: No medications that inhibit or promote digestion (e.g. MCP, cimetidine).
2 days before: From now on, only eat easily digestible foods with low sugar and fibre content.
If you've recently completed another breath test, wait at least two days before performing this test.
24 hours before: Light meals in small quantities, Only eat the following:
White rice (freshly cooked or steamed, not microwaved).
Freshly cooked potatoes without skin (do not cool or reheat).
Poultry or fish (grilled/baked, without heavy sauces, breadcrumbs, or strong spices.
Eggs.
Clear meat broth (made from meat only, no bones, cartilage, or vegetables).
Fats/oils (coconut oil, olive oil, vegetable oils, ghee, or lard).
Salt and pepper (no other spices or herbs).
Weak black coffee and/or weak/light tea (pure, without sweeteners or milk, NO green tea or herbal tea).
Still water (not carbonated, no flavourings or additives, not even with ‘natural flavourings’).
No alcohol.

8-12 hours before & during the test: No food. Only still water. Avoid unnecessary medications. No gum, toothpaste or mouthwash.
2 hours before & during the test: No smoking. If possible, do not use asthma inhalers, do not engage in sports or other physical activities before and during the test, including, for example, running up stairs.

Immediately before and during the test: You must not eat anything during the entire test. After starting the test, you may drink small amounts of still water (no sparkling mineral water or flavoured water).

Dosage for people weighing under 25kg:
Dosage: 0.4 g per kg body weight

Examples: 7,5 kg –› 3 g (4.5 ml) lactulose 12,5 kg –› 5 g (7.5 ml) lactulose 15 kg –› 6 g (9 ml) lactulose 20 kg –› 8 g (12 ml) lactulose

Due to the physiologically shorter passage time, the interval between sample collection must also be shortened in children (0 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and 120 minutes).

Register Test-ID

Before you start, you need to register your test-ID. Your test kit contains a sticker with your unique test-ID. If you need help creating an account, you can check our guide.

Place The 7 Glass Containers In Order

Remove the test tubes from the transport container and place them in the order in which the samples are to be taken.

Attach the numbered stickers to the tubes in the order of which you use them.

Using The Mouthpiece

Take the mouthpiece in one hand with the spout facing up, and the test tube marked “1” in the other hand.

The first breath test should be performed BEFORE taking the supplied solution.

Note: There is a small hole in the breath collection bag, and it is there intentionally. It allows the first part of your breath—the air from your mouth and airways—to escape, ensuring that the bag is filled with deeper air from the lungs, which is required for analysis.

Breathe Through The Mouthpiece

Inhale, hold your breath for 5 seconds and then exhale the air through the mouthpiece in the bag so that the bag fills slowly.

Filling The Tube

While you are still exhaling, ie. the bag is still filled with the air you have exhaled, place the test tube with the rubber side against the extraction device while pressing lightly.

A needle penetrates the rubber of the test tube. The air from the bag now enters the pipe. Pull the test tube out of the collection device and place it ready for dispatch.

Note: The needle has a silicone cover, do not remove it. The needle is not affected by this, the silicone piece protects both the needle and you.

Note The Time

After taking the first reference sample, make sure to note the time on the provided paper.

Note: From now on you will not be allowed to drink more water for an hour! After that it is ok to drink plain still water.

Drink Lactulose Solution

Drink the 10g Lactulose solution provided in the kit.

The test solution can be taken undiluted. Alternatively, dissolve the entire contents of the test solution in 200 ml of warm water.

Repeat With The Other 6 Glass Containers

Tube 2: 30 min after drinking the solution
Tube 3: 50 min after drinking the solution
Tube 4: 70 min after drinking the solution
Tube 5: 90 min after drinking the solution
Tube 6: 120 min after drinking the solution
Tube 7: 150 min after drinking the solution

Record the time of the breathing gas samples (No. 2-7) on the test protocol.

Sending Sample

Make sure that the glass tubes have been placed securely in their transport tubes.

Put the foil pouch in the provided envelope and send it.

Note: Send your sample at the beginning of the week (preferably Monday or Tuesday) to avoid delays. Keep the sample refrigerated until sending.

Wait 10-15 Business Days For Results

Results are usually available 10–15 business days after we receive your sample.

As soon as your results are ready, we'll notify you by email and text message. Your results will then be available to view in your my.gettested.io account.
